We were very excited about taking this tour - the reviews were great and there were over 10 places we were going to see in a very efficient manner. Walking between these monuments would have taken a lot of time and would have been exhausting.
Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Especially given we had paid over $100USD per person. I guess with all tours very much depends on the knowledge of the guide and his/her ability to ensure the things promised are delivered.
Our guide Andy was a Vietnam vet and retired teacher (40 yrs teaching in middle school). We thought this was promising. But the reality was that Andy didn't know much about most of the monuments. He kept repeating the stuff he knew. Either he was new or was not trained. Everything was very surface level with no depth whatsoever. There were other guides at the monuments that we eaves dropped on and they were quite insightful.
Also we spend way too much time at each of the early monuments which resulted in us skipping the guided stops at Washington Monument, Ulysses S grant, marine corps memorial, iwo jima and skipping the pass by of Arlington cemetery, and naval heritage centre. I get that he is a vietnam vet but we spent close to an hour there. He was not able to control the group and prevent people from loitering for no reason at various stops. Interestingly the Korean Memorial was closed due to construction so we should have had ample time. To do everything.
We would not recommend this tour if you want to learn anything. If you want to be driven, take photos and say you went there this is perfect For $200 you could likely uber everywhere and still save money.
