We did this trip as a group of 4 with tour guide Roman. Usually we don't write reviews but would like to share our experience this time because we were really quite disappointed.
Our morning was successful with the trip to Alcatraz, the van was nice and so were the other guests. On the way to Muir Woods, tour guide Roman talked about the bay area, golden gate bridge and Muir Woods. He spoke very conversationally and the information was quite unstructured and superficial.
In Muir Woods Roman reminded all of us specifically to be at the bus on time. All guests were back at the van on time, however Roman had decided to go on a nice personal bike tour (with his private bike he was bringing along in the back of the bus) and showed up 5 minutes late. Of course, this was not a big deal to us but it somewhat alienated us.
We also liked Sausalito. On the way back from Sausalito Roman again was very conversational and unstructured. He really made us feel like he was just a friend showing us the city he lives in.
In the bus there is a large sign pointing out that it is customary to give a 20% tip and Roman pointed out the sign three times during the trip (not very subtly although masked as joke).
We were the last to leave the bus as other folks had been dropped off in different places. However, since we didn't feel like we had had a very great time, we decided to tip Roman significantly less than 20% of our combined 4 tickets.
Roman got aggressive, started to pull out the cash that other customers had given him to show it to us and shouted at us how we could dare to give so little a tip. His aggressiveness was very discomforting and really worked all of us up.
Roman is very unprofessional and I cannot recommend him as a tour guide. Consequently, I can definitely not recommend this trip.
