We had the most wonderful experience last weekend. The Amish Experience offers a VIP (Visit in Person) tour in which you are escorted to three different Amish places of business or home. We first went to a dairy farm and quilt shop, then a greenhouse, and finally had a visit with a family of former vegetable producers. We were able to ask questions about the Amish way of life, how they conduct business without the internet, and other questions about production practices, etc. Jim, our guide, was fabulous. I had gone on a trip two years ago, but Jim was just phenomenal. He knew these families and gave us a lot of information. If you really want to get a first-hand experience of Amish life, this is the way to do it.

We partook in The Amish Experience in early August 2017. It is a highly recommended visitor experience for anyone visiting Lancaster County or Pennsylvania. Our guide was Kent who is very knowledgeable about the Amish culture and friendly with scores of families across the community. Kent is also an Amish taxi driver meaning he is called upon to take Amish families on longer journeys; this is anything from medical appointments to family outings. If you didn't know, the Amish culture does not permit its disciples to use modern items like the motor vehicle. The tour encompasses three visits to real Amish families. We visited an Amish-run soap making business and two families who each welcomed the tour group into their homes. They told us about their lives, happily answered questions and were keen to ask about our lives in the wider world.It is a really fascinating and moving experience to interact with the families. Kent keeps the pace moving in between the homes by giving a detailed description of Amish history, key facts and myths, and a good amount of personal insight too. He also passed on a good recommendation for a restaurant in Gettysburg which was most useful. Kent was an excellent guide. As stated, if you are interested in visiting the Amish communities and want the opportunity to meet 'real' people The Amish Experience is strongly recommended. We really valued the whole experience of this tour and the memories will last a long time.

We loved our visit to Bird-in-Hand and most especially, our visit to the Amish Experience. We enjoyed the movie Jacob's Choice and the tour of the Amish farmhouse and schoolhouse. Both were very enlightening, but most of all, we loved the bus tour of the Amish farms and the stop along the way to the dairy farm. We also ALL loved our Amish buggy ride. It was relaxing and most informative.
