Hop into a Toyota Land Cruiser with your expert guide and head north from Moab to the backcountry entrance of Arches National Park and avoid the crowds.

Our first stop is to see dinosaur footprints. For millions of years this area was teeming with dinosaurs.

We pass Balanced Rock, one of the most iconic features of the Park, standing a staggering 128 feet. Landscape look familiar? Indiana Jones, and Thelma and Louise have scenes shot here.

The 4X4 trail into the backcounty climbs a short but steep rock wall passing sandstone fins, towering pinnacles and tall spires known as the Marching Men. We stop at Tower Arch for an optional hike.

As you travel along the track, hear informative commentary about the geology, wildlife and history of the park.

We make another stop at Eye of the Whale for an optional hike to a seldom visited slick rock playground named Herdina Park.

After exploring the backcountry we exit past the three gossips and Park Avenue before your guide returns you to Moab.

Ric was a great guide! Knowledgeable and funny he kept the group entertained while traversing the rocky terrain out to remarkable arches and rock formations. Ric customized the tour to the wishes and hiking capabilities of the group. Snacks were limited - diabetics may need to carry granola bars or fruit. We would definitely recommend Ric and this tour!

My husband and I went on the late afternoon 4 hour trip into Arches. We enjoyed seeing areas of the park that are not accessible to a normal car. Our driver, Dan, did an excellent job of explaining what we were seeing. He had us walk into an area near the Delicate Arch viewing site that gave us a much better view of the arch than the more visited areas. Unfortunately, a very windy sandstorm came up for the last hour of the trip which did not allow us to see some of the park which would be spectacular at sunset.

On Saturday morning, we went into Arches National Park and spent three hours on all of the paved roads and did a few short hikes. On Sunday afternoon, we had contracted with NAVTEC EXPEDITIONS and Adam was our tour guide. The trip was the "Moab: Half-Day Arches National Park 4x4 Driving Tour and Sunset." We went on every off-road trail in the entire park and were fortunate enough to see not only the Willow Springs dinosaur tracks, but a number of arches and rock formations that less than 1% of the park visitors ever see. We were lucky enough that the other couple paired with us for this adventure had also already done the paved portions of the park. Adam was both daring and careful at the same time with the skill to do both soft sand as well as slick rock off-roading with Navtec's Lexus version of the Land Cruiser.
