This walking tour led by Captain Bryan is not your average "sit there and shut up" tour where the guide won't even remember you. Rather, after brief introduction, Captain Bryan will lead you on a historic journey of how Shem Creek came to prominence with its famous shrimping fleet and much more. Unlike any other tour in the area, guest have the ability to see the industry at work. Perhaps the group will meet Mr. Rector at Geechie Seafood with his several shrimp boats, beautiful reminders of the bountiful harvest to be conducted offshore. This is not a tour, it is an experience to immerse yourself in the Shem Culture. Take back history, culture, language, snacks, but most of all guests will take from this experience an underlying appreciation for our local shrimpers and the history behind these hard working men and women.

We have done a lot of Charleston tours but never anything focused on Mount Pleasant. Captain Bryan was great! We are local but still learned a lot.

My husband and I did the tour today. Capt. Bryan has a passion for Mt. Pleasant and its extensive history. That came through again and agin whether we were walking through Old Village or along the docks and boardwalks. He spent much more than the allotted time, and even texted additional sites and restaurants in the area. It was honestly much more than we expected.

Captain Bryan is a wealth of knowledge and shares it all in a fun and interesting way. I signed up for the tour to learn about the Shem Creek shrimping industry, and came a way with loads of history about not only Shem Creek, but also Charleston and Mt Pleasant. Captain Bryan shows you things that even locals aren't always aware of. He knows most everyone and connected us with a great place to buy fresh shrimp, fish and an amazing Key Lime pie! I highly recommend taking this tour!
