We had a great tour guide, Arwen leading our tour. Learning the history of the city was great and how Seattle got built was very interesting. As explained you are not really underground but underneath the street level, the back story is definitely worth learning about. My 17-year-old daughter and I were on a college visit and wanted to get a feel for the city. Pioneer Square has a rich history and the art and architecture were great to look at. Unfortunately, the area is not so great. We had an aggressive person follow our group, yell in the faces of our tour guide and several other people in our group. We were told that this element is common due to lots of social services in the area and it's also a place where demonstrations regularly happen. Thankfully, the person did finally leave when a park employee came by and then the owner followed us the rest of the way on the tour. Catching an uber back to our hotel we tried to exit the area quickly as the general area did not feel safe. Sad because it is a cool area.

Cortina,
Thank you for taking our tour and for the compliments about your guide. The arrival of Covid has resulted in many of the neighborhood shelters closing, and with the exodus of office workers from the neighborhood many of the local businesses still remain closed. This has definitely created some challenges and we share you concern about the long term impacts. We will include your comments in our communications with City Hall. A large encampment was recently closed and housing was provided for 31 people. Hopefully we have begun to turn the corner.
