We did the South Side tour last year, with Marta & Dan, and this year decided the place to be was the East Side, largely Kapa'a, and it was led by Katherine. She did a fine job as leader, and the stops were all good ones for learning about the skilled food purveyors of Kauai. Judy at Haole Girl was the beginning location, and that worked out well -- if there's any downside to the tour (and that's a tiny one) it's a lot of standing in her shop; most other venues there was plenty of space and a chance to sit down while absorbing the Chefs' stories and approaches. The only other regret I'd have, and Katherine explained the whys and wherefores, was that we never made it to the "field" -- to where the food was actually produced. The explanation she gave was that the State food administration folks aren't enamored of having people in the field, eating on site -- they'd rather have the "consumption" going on in inspected restaurants or businesses where there was accountability. I understand, but it would have been great to see where some of the food comes from, at the producer side. I might add, the traffic would be a whole lot less congested & awful! Just a condition of growing and ambitious Kauai, I guess. But whether eating tritip at Paniolo Santa Maria Tritip, or trying the poke at Pono Market, burger and sushi at Kenji Burger or ending up with the exquisite offerings at Oasis by the Beach, it was all fun. My husband and I took this tour I On February 28 with our tour guide Kathrine. It was the best, so much so we booked the tour on the East side for March 8th as well! The food was so, so delicious we will go back for more. The samples were huge and saw us through lunch and dinner. We learned so much about the food of the island, and the history of the island and went away feeling like this was one of the best things we did on kuaii!! Worth doing for sure!

We had planned to go on the tour and it was during a time of intense rainfall and flooding in Kauai. We had inquired about cancelling within the 7 days but were told this could not happen (even though they could have tried to see if they could get the spots filled, and if not then keep us on the hook). I emailed them to ask if the tour would still be going on b/c of the intense rain and they said they would confirm the morning of. Even after emailing them in the morning we didnt' get a response until 2hrs before the tour and were staying in a different part of the island so I felt this was poor communication. Daniel who we were communicating with was at least professional, but I can't say the same for the owner Martha. She may have good connections in the area but her customer service needs some help.

Manjit, I’m not sure how to help you. We communicated extensively through email. Yes, there was a big storm two days before the tour. We told you we don’t cancel tours because of rain, but if the flooding continued we wold cancel and notify you first thing in the morning. On the morning of the tour, the rain cleared and it was a beautiful day. The sold out tour went on as scheduled. Everyone but your party arrived on time, ready to eat. Your confirmation email states that no shows are charged in full. That’s not unusual as all event and activity companies on Kauai have the same policy. We have to pay our vendors for your spots, whether or not you are there to eat.
