we really enjoyed the museum. there were several buildings and each were different. We enjoyed the Pathfinders show and the lava rock demonstration. It was really nice

We were impressed by the size of the collection of artifacts in the Bishop Museum. It was easy to get to via TheBus with only a short walk, and there is plenty of parking. The gardens are not much to see in the winter. The main building has an elevator and so many artifacts that it took a couple of hours to walk through all of the floors. There are some interactive exhibits and so much history, it is amazing.

In addition to a hall dedicated to history of Hawaii and the surrounding islands, there's also a presentation about how lava forms and turns to rocks (they'll pass around the rocks so you can see and touch them). In addition there's a planetarium with multiple daily shows. The cafe was good -- we loved the pulled pork sandwich.
