I’m not sure where to start. First of all, it’s a good thing the guide called me because I was standing in the meeting location and I couldn’t find anyone with the tour. There wasn’t any signage. Second- the tour guide, while friendly, had a very thick accent. I understood about 1/2 of what she told us. This is what she said that I understood:
-I used to stop here (somewhere in the Bronx) but someone was shot there so I don’t anymore.
-If you are looking for drugs, find a man in a wheelchair in front of a deli.
-The Williamsburg Jews are weird.
-The Muslim community doesn’t treat their woman well.
-Look at the police cars in the Bronx. They have very thick bulletproof glass because people kill the police here. (The Bronx)
And many, many more weird, slightly racist, incorrect and odd things to tell us. I found myself thinking- do you know you don’t have to talk the ENTIRE time?!
Really no information on the beginnings of the neighborhoods, which is what I thought we’d hear.
Find another tour if you can.
