It was our last day in Alaska and our flight wasn’t until 10 pm, so we decided to fit in one last adventure. We decided on the hot springs and ice museum because descriptions made them sound exotic and unique. I’ll be honest. For the ice museum, I was actually picturing James Bond’s Die Another Day. We were picked up at our hotel by Dave who was driving a brand new 12-passenger van for the hour+ drive to Chena. One other couple traveled with us. Dave was funny, engaging and very knowledgeable about the local area. The outdoor hot springs pool was made to look like a natural pond — very nice and very warm. The ice museum was a bit of a disappointment. The ice sculptures were beautiful, but the tour was led by an overworked tour guide for whom i actually felt sorry. We purchased the optional apple martini served in a carved ice martini glass. It would have been a fun experience they had used a better grade of vodka and we hadn’t been rushed because our tour time was up. I had the feeling that the resort owner was honestly trying to provide enough activities for summer visitors, but I have a feeling that fall/winter would be a much better time to visit, especially when the northern lights are visible. All in all, I don’t regret the expense or the time. It was memorable.

Hello from North Pole,
thank you for leaving us a review.
Unfortunately, we are not in charge of the ice museum's guides. We are always making sure to give our guides enough rest and the possibility of taking extra brakes if needed. Otherwise it could be very dangerous on our tours and of course we want everyone to love working with us. This is the most important goal.
And you are correct. The winter time is definitely the main season for the Chena Hot Springs, but it seems like they are trying to provide activities for all seasons.
Greetings from Alaska, Sylvia
