This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

If you want to see Daufuskie Island, this tour is a good way to do it. The tour is well organized. Captain Pete’s commentary was interesting and he did a good job of drawing our attention to points of interest along the way. The roads on the island are very dusty, so riding in one of the back golf carts was a bit unpleasant at times. The return trip by boat was at a higher rate of speed, and extremely uncomfortable if you were unlucky enough to be in the front of the boat like I was. Thus four stars vs five.

Thank you for the review! Daufuskie is a great island to explore, and it is filled with adventure! Sometimes crossing the Calibogue Sound can get a bit bumpy, however, our captains do their best to keep the ride as smooth as possible in the given conditions! Come back and join us for another advanture soon!

Our tour guide and captain, Mickey was very informative, helpful and pleasant. The boat ride was great and the weather was perfect. I was glad it was a small group your of 10 people. This allows you to meet everyone.
