This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

I am writing this review to let people know that their customer service is excellent. Our Daufuskie Island Guided History tour was canceled due to Hurricane Idalia. They immediately contacted me re: issuing a refund and followed up with emails until I actually saw the credit on my Visa statement. Thank you very much and we hope to reschedule sometime in the furture.

This astounding tour started with fully-narrated cruising parts of HHI before crossing Calibogie sound and then a near circumnavigation of Daufuskie Island before docking and disembarking on the NW part of Daufuskie. The golf cart tour of the Island which followed was enriching and exciting. It was truly fascinating and educational learning from Capt. Pete about the land and sea geography, as well as the people of Daufuskie. Although he was quite knowledgeable about the Gullah culture, his interpretation of the treatment enslaved Africans on the Island as being "good", is at best debatable. He nevertheless answered all of our probing questions. The acknowledgement of the exploitation of the skills that the enslaved Africans brought with them from Africa and the resultant benefits derived toward the economic and cultural development of the Island was not ahistorical. The tour was a great mix of nature and the tortured history of America. We learned a lot and are looking forward to another trip to Daufuskie with Capt. Pete.
