Due to cancellation, we ended up on a Covered Boat Swamp Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour. We were picked up from our hotel as promised at the correct time; and off we went to the Oak Alley Plantation. Having looked around the slave quarters, needless to say, the mood was a little sombre bearing in mind what the plantation was about. We saw all around the building, plus the avenue of oak trees which gave the plantation it's name; and it was all very interesting and worth the trip. We then went on to the swamp. We met 'Captain Jason' who was the pilot of the boat. We travelled through the swamp area, and came across alligators; who I must admit were attracted to the boat by marshmallows, but were a great photo opportunity. We also saw herons and other birds. The guide was informative regarding the flooding of the swamp after Katrina and alligators. Overall, an interesting experience.
