We were led on a delicious, first rate architectural and food tour of Charleston by the affable and knowledgable Monica who had more energy and enthusiasm than any 10 other guides! After meeting and greeting at the meeting site, we walked and listened as Monica shared her considerable insight into the building history and design of the area. Our fist food stop was Eli’s Table where we sampled truly award winning fried green tomatoes on a spectacular tomato coulis, shrimp and perfectly ground grits, and a light, sweet beignet. House wines and drinks were offered for purchase. Next we went to the Crab House where we enjoyed shared Crab boils with shrimp, crab claws, corn and fingerling potatoes. Again, superb food! Drinks were available for purchase. (Tea and water were included.) Next a local bbq place called Poogan’s smokehouse where a large tray of BBQ sliders with coleslaw were offered up. By now we were all getting full but we shouldered on to dessert at Carmellas where we were offered a full serve of four layer red velvet cake. We couldn’t begin to enjoy it but took it to go. We thoroughly enjoyed Monica’s insight on her favorite city. She answered all our questions, kept us masked up with gentle reminders, and socially distanced as were walked along. A great tour that we HIGHLY recommend!
