Hi gang,
Upon debarkation from the RCCL Majesty of The Seas following a weeklong cruise to Key West and Havana, Cuba we were supposed to be picked up for a visit to Everglades Holiday Park soon after de-boarding. Thru a scheduling/communication snafu we were picked up nearly 1 1/2 hrs late.
Our tour incl a 60 min airboat tour with narration. Very loud engines, narration was cheesy at best but we did see 3 - 6 ft alligators and a baby (18 in long). The airboat pilot knew just where to look. Temps about 88 deg with Florida humidity, water depth was 2-3 ft mostly. After the airboat ride we were shuttled to the alligator show where a former “Gator Boy” TV star played with a coupla gators, cracked jokes and then said, “shows over, don’t forget to contribute”. Stood in line longer than the show lasted....Not much shade sitting in the bleachers and glad to go. Photo ops with Burmese python, albino gator and a “you-can-hold-the 2 ft croc” photo op.
No sooner had we ordered our food (gator bites (8 pcs, dice sized) and fries ($11.95) we were told by the shuttle driver that we had to leave NOW...... That obviously doesn’t bode well, a coupla of us ate our lunch on the 30 min drive to the BW Airport hotel. Very bad organization, remember they were 1 1/2 hrs late picking us up at the ship ?? So now we have to leave because they’ve got other parties to pick up ????
Hot, humid day, ok boat ride, boring alligator show, overpriced theme park food, not allowed time to eat said lunch.....I wasn’t over-wowed by the experience.
If you’re interested in seeing alligators in their natural habitat but don’t expect anything beyond theme-park mentality, this might be your must see.
After an hour and a half delay, no priority “lunch is on us” or partial refund offers, we were just left amongst the masses.
