NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art is a vast depository of art from every part of the world and every era of human civilization. We started at ancient Egypt, then Rome and Greece, then reviewed the creation of Impressionism. Our guide, Maite, was friendly, had a great educational and professional background and covered lots of territory without appearing to hurry anything.
Without her guidance we could never have covered nearly as much art, would not have had the benefit of her insight, couldn't have enjoyed the visit nearly as much as we did.
The Met is a wonderful and great institution, but it can be an overwhelming prospect when you are in the giant entryway wondering where to start. We spent the previous day at the American Museum of Natural History, which I have visited several times before. The guided day at the Met was far more enjoyable as we didn't have to wonder where to go nor how to get there, because Maite knew our next stop.
She also knew the history of most items we discussed, often could discuss how they were created and the biography of the artists. I arranged the tour online not long after we booked our suite and airfare into the city. Everything was great!
