I surprised my parents by booking this tour. We were only in town for a few days and we wanted to see and learn as much as we could. I had been to New Orleans several years before and had taken a walking tour with a different company and I remember it being a lot of fun. I could not find that other company when I was making this booking, but I have to say, I’m glad I didn’t. This walking tour through Friends of the Cabildo was truly wonderful.
Charles, a retired lawyer from Philadelphia, was our volunteer guide. He and his wife retired to New Orleans because they both fell in love with the town years before. Charles was both knowledgeable and entertaining. His tour was a great mix of both fun and information. It was also very engaging and if you got a quiz question right, you were rewarded with Mardi Gras beads! He clearly has a passion for his adopted city.
We walked all through out the French Quarter and learned a variety of things like the Spanish Caribbean architecture on many of the homes, where Tennessee Williams lived while writing ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ and my favorite, the many sorted of tales of Major General Benjamin Franklin Butler... “The greatest lawyer in the world.” Ask Charles and he’ll tell you all about it.😉
Five stars and two big thumbs up from both me and my parents. We will be sure to book a tour with this company again.
Note:
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water if you want. It is not strenuous walking, but it dose require standing and walking for two hours.
TIP YOUR GUIDE!
The gift shop and the Museum are nice for poking around.
