8 hr Northwestern Glacier cruise on 7/21. Captain John Coffey. We're very active and enjoy hiking, so we were skeptical that an 8hr cruise could be so enjoyable from beginning to end. This was worth every penny. Crew and captain were very knowledgeable, hospitable and always available. The boat was comfortable, clean and offered amazing views. This company came recommended from Reddit, and I am so glad we found them. Definitely allowed us to end our Alaskan vacation on a high note! Go here!!!

Yesterday was an excellent journey on the Orca Song for the 8.5 hour Northwestern Glacier trip. It was full of amazing wildlife and beautiful scenery, it was a little foggy and the weather was overcast but the seas were really pretty calm. Shortly after we boarded the Orca song we made our way out of the harbor and we were greeted by a Bald Eagle 🦅 on one of the channel markers to the harbor entrance. The boat was a good choice for the size of our visitors not too crowded and plenty of places and room to look out as we made our way through Resurrection Bay, we made our way out and headed southwestward skirting the Gulf of Alaska and even here the weather was very calm. About halfway down the coast we spotted a group of about 14 Humpback Whales bubble feeding. It was quite impressive to see them coordinating their efforts to get as much bait fish as possible, as we could hear their moans, clicks and whistles through a hydrophone that the crew of the boat had placed in the water. After spending some time with theses amazing animals and capturing some great pictures and video we let them carry on their feeding and headed away from them. We continued our journey to Harris Bay and Northwestern Glacier, we came across some cliffs with lots of seabirds and even some tuffed and horned puffins which are always great to see. Next stop was a small tree and grass covered island with a rock pull out for a colony of Sea Lions and their pups some of which were only a couple of months old. Shortly after this we spotted some Dolls Porpoises chasing their prey of either salmon or bait fish, they were very quick with their rooster tail of a splash from their tails as they moved around quickly. We were surprised to see the Porpoises and our next surprise was even better for we came upon an adult Orca and her calf that was learning to catch salmon. They were very excited and actively chased their prey all around the area. We spent as much time as slotted so that we didn’t overwhelm them, which is good decision. We finally made it to the Northwestern Glacier and took some amazing pictures and videos. After about an hour or so we finished our journey and headed back to Seward again on calm seas. The crew were very happy and cheerful sharing their knowledge and providing us with great hospitality and service. Obviously the weather and the experience of seeing all the wildlife makes for a great cruise. I would definitely recommend the 8.5 hour cruise for the number of passengers wasn’t as crowded as some of shorter cruises, and the boat was just the right size, plenty of restrooms aboard. Theres plenty of coffee and snacks aboard, plus they provide you lunch of your choice of a sandwich, drink and chips. With wildlife you can never predict where and if they will be there so have patience and enjoy the scenery and you will have a better time when you do get those wildlife surprises.
