If you really want to enjoy it - get to know some of the folks around you in your rail car, and enjoy interacting with the entertainment that rambles around the various rail cars. Once at the GC board one of the busses for the driving tour that stops a various places that allows you to enjoy the views of the Canyon, before heading back to the train and the trip back. Another open buffet, and bar for the trip home, and now seeing all that you missed on the trip up. Absolutely a Must Do.
