I've spent some time in Atlanta but I had no idea how interesting and cool this city was! This was my very first food walking tour and boy, has this tour set some high expectations. It was a beautiful 75 degree day in Atlanta with a friendly walking tour through the city. In my mind, southern food and vegetarian fare don't necessarily go together but Akila's tour was very vegetarian friendly. The vegetarian substitutions were filling and lip smackin' good. Fried okra at Pashcal's, smoked portabella at the Smoke Ring, and yummy yummy grits at Sweet Auburn Seafood.
I also enjoyed learning about the history of Atlanta, the roots of the Civil rights movement, and wander these hallowed streets. Akila was a great guide!. She is very knowledgeable about ATL, the history, and the influences of southern food. (Srsly, I had no idea how complex sourthern food and history was!)
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves food, exploring a city on foot, and enjoys history! It is a great way to spend a couple of hours in Atlanta!
