This was definitely a highlight of our vacation. Corey and Andre did great preparing us for the bike ride while driving us up the volcano in the bus beforehand. Corey's instructions, tips, and suggestions were spot on. He knows what he’s doing! While biking down a volcano was definitely a bit out of my comfort zone, I found it thrilling and fun. Some key points to its success: Maui Bike provided us with great equipment: lightweight waterproof pants and jackets, gloves, backpack, and awesome bikes and helmets.
We enjoyed the freedom of the self-guided tour. We stopped several times on the side of the road to take pictures and shed layers of clothing. We stopped at the Maui Lavendar Cafe because we heard about their delicious donuts. (And they were!). After the ride, we had a delicious breakfast at Colleen's, right next to the Maui Bike headquarters.
If you go, bring enough warm clothes to get you through an hour of standing at the crater in temperatures around 30 deg (F) waiting for the sun to rise. Also, know that you will be sharing this tricky road with cars as you bike down, which is a little nerve-wracking.
