Our guide was exceptional - full of information about the history and the current state of the Mount Morris Park neighborhood. She was an advocate for the preservation and renewal of this neighborhood, and provided personal stories that demonstrated her personal commitment to helping the neighborhood retain its original character. We learned about brownstones, how properties appreciated in value through sweat equity renovations by people who bought houses when they were in disrepair, Jewish synagogues that became Black Churches, walked by buildings that were formerly homes to historical artists, went into the lobby of the Apollo, and had an excellent lunch at a classic diner, Harlem Shake. It was a memorable afternoon!
