Great day. Our guide, Mel, was very knowledgeable and explained the connection between the people of Hawaii and the volcano in ways we had not seen. The hike was enjoyable, the views spectacular and the serene forest peaceful. Thanks Hawaii Forest and Trail for a different experience!

We had a wonderful time visiting the volcanoes and surrounding area; especially the lava tube. Eric F. did a FANTASTIC job leading the tour. Hike is moderate. Trail is rough and uneven while pace and distance is very easy. CAUTION: 4-wheel “Jeep” ride to trail is VERY rough. Guests with neck or back problems will want to think twice about this challenging terrain. Brewery tour is done well. If you have an interest in local craft beer, I think you will find this interesting and fun. Many thanks to Eric F. for doing such a nice job with all of his guests!

Melanie was a superb guide with extensive naturalist and Hawaiian culture knowledge. She also demonstrated her 4-wheeling abilities getting us through a rough patch in the road that her male colleague was unable to do earlier (You go girl!) This hike is very special and highly recommended since you are allowed into private lands that are not open to the general public.
