You may spot elk, antelope, deer and buffalo and maybe even an elusive mountain lion. The beautiful Black Hills is the only place in the world where you can witness such historic, wild landscape and abundant wildlife from a hot air balloon!

Black Hills National Forest

Once the balloon is ready, you’ll gently take to the skies for an approximate 1-hour flight over the Black Hills National Forest. If you are new to ballooning, you’ll be surprised at the silence and serenity you’ll find high above the treetops. It’s truly magical. Upon landing, the ground crew will pack the balloon while you and your pilot celebrate the flight with complimentary champagne, light snacks and a story about the origin of hot air ballooning. Flights depart at sunrise and are weather dependent and always at the discretion of your experienced pilot.

My third time in a hot air balloon but my first time taking one over the jaw dropping BLACK HILLS National Forest!! Stunning views, watching wild life from above, and being in the sky for a magnificent sunrise will always be something I cherish! Being in a hot air balloon is so calming and peaceful to me. My hosts @blackhillsballoons in Custer, Sd were absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend them!

100% recommended a dozen times over. The reservations were super easy to make and our pilot was in great communication with us about weather. Our date we chose was going to end up being cold and fairly windy so we were offered another date that we were easily able to accommodate. Our pilots, Damian and Sam, were hilarious, easy going, informative, and really darn good at what they do. I would do this every morning if I could! They send an email with guidelines for what to bring and what not to bring. If you stick to that, you will have a wonderful time! We live in Custer but have never taken the ride until this morning. My only regret is not going sooner.

We have done balloon flights around the U. S. and Black Hills Balloons is definitely one of the best. The pilots are very talented and entertaining at the same time. The crew is very efficient and quick. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend you take a flight with them!
