When the tour salesman said that we would see whales or else we would get our money back I skeptically figured that we would perhaps encounter a couple of whales out in the distance and thus we would have "seen whales"... It turned out to be a wonderful experience when we were able to see 13 humpback whales within 10-15 yards from the boat, blowing, bellowing, diving several times over a span of more than 30 minutes. But the biggest surprise was actually during the first part of the tour... While on our way to see the humpbacks somebody asked if the tours ever encountered orcas (killer whales) and we were told that orca sightings were rare and typically very quick. Lo and behold, within minutes of that response...Orcas!! And not just a couple, 20 of them!! Three groups of 6 and a couple. The pilot expertly followed them for about 15 minutes before they swam away. The crew, Larry, Kristen, and Monica, were super friendly, very knowledgeable and experienced. They tirelessly answered everyone's questions and we can see how passionate they are about their work. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip. If your cruise ship arrives early in the morning we suggest getting on one of the earlier tours before the rest of the cruise ships arrive. Nobody can guarantee you will see humpbacks and orcas, but that uncertainty is what makes seeing them special. Alaska Tales will do a great job of providing the best experience.

Great experience! Got a chance to see the whales. Crew was super nice! Highly recommended. Pick up at port and also drop at port with plenty of time.

We had a great time and we learned a lot about the whales. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We are looking forward to doing this again next time.
