We booked a Dolphin & Snorkel Eco Tour with Fury for our trip to the Florida Keys, the Fury website is a great website, easy to use and full of information. We booked directly on the website with ease, when arriving in Key West we were pleased to see that Fury are easily the biggest excursions company, with stands and booths all over the town.
We arrived for our Dolphin tour and proceeded to check in and wait for our Captain who arrived, welcomed us and invited us onboard the boat. Both the captain, and his female mate were friendly, enthusiastic and full of joy and laughter that really made the trip interesting and enjoyable.
The day we were sailing, the weather was somewhat unfavourable with some ominous looking clouds. Our captain made every effort to avoid the bad weather and keep us in the sunshine and calm waters.
Sadly, the dolphins did not want to come out to play on this day – and we fully understand that these are WILD animals and Fury cannot do anything about that, they can only do their best to find them. Our Captain went to every effort to try to find them, changing course multiple times, asking over the radio and encouraging everyone on the boat to keep a good look out, sadly no dolphins!
We enjoyed the complimentary soft-drink refreshments on board, the complimentary alcohol was reserved till after the snorkelling portion of the trip for safety reasons.
Again, due to the bad weather we couldn’t go to the typical snorkel location and had to go to a calmer sponge garden. The crew were informative and helpful with getting us kitted out, telling us the rules and procedures and getting us in the water as quickly as possible to enjoy the Florida waters. The water certainly wasn’t very clear, but we did see some life before being called back to the boat. The snorkel aspect of the trip was over fairly quickly, but this was down to the bad conditions and the captain wishing to spend more time trying to find the dolphins we were all desperate to see.
On the trip home, again – every effort was made to find the dolphins – and just in time, we spotted one, swimming and playing just ahead of us. We spent around 15 minutes tracking the dolphin, before heading back to port.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Fury, and despite the bad conditions and only seeing one Dolphin (none of which were Fury’s fault) – they did everything they could to ensure we got the best experience.
If you are in Key West, check out Fury – they do loads of trips that cater to all types of experiences from water sports, dolphin watching, sunset cruises and so much more.
