This hidden gem is just lovely. The staff is incredibly helpful, the grounds are stunning, and we are so glad we made the drive to Hilo. The hike itself isn’t too long- 30-45 minutes at most. Some of it is slippery but if you take your time, you feel pretty accomplished when you’ve made it without slipping. The falls are beautiful. You can swim in the water if the staff deems it safe enough, take a kayak or paddle board. We didn’t because it was too difficult for me, but plenty of others did just fine.
We brought our lunch and the staff welcomes you to eat it on the upper lanai with a view of the waterfall. There is a residence restroom available, water refilling station, water shoes and walking sticks to borrow. It really is a great way to spend some time. We did not stay the entire 5 hours- I don’t really know what you’d do for that amount of time, but it’s a great experience and we highly recommend it.
