Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Great time on the Upper and Lower River today. The water was great, wished it would have been warmer ( it is april ) but that's why I rented a wet suit. We enjoyed listening to Sully ( our guide) share with us local history through the rafting experience. Doug entertained everyone on the bus ride with his dad jokes. Definitely recommend. Sully should totally have a rock named after him, as he's a Rockstar.

You only get a rock named after you if you crash and burn on one, haha, Thank you!

Adventure to the max! Highly recommend adventuring with AOTG. Shout out to Ray (Lower New), Sully (Upper Gauley), and Justin (Lower Gauley)! We loved every day on the water. We stayed in the Kaymoor cabins. Spacious enough for three adults and all of our whitewater gear. Comfortable, quiet, clean. We ate at Smokey’s on the deck—what a view. We were impressed by the quality and generous portions. Everyone we interacted with at AOTG was friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed staying on site. All 3 of our rafting experiences were fantastic and incredibly well-organized. The guides are excellent, provide great interpretation about the area and history, and of course keep you safe. Gauley season is like Christmas and your birthday balled into one. Upper Gauley is a rowdy stretch. The website is very well designed, easy to navigate, and easy to book through. Highly recommend checking out all the details and talking to an “adventure specialist” if you have any questions. One of the newly designated Nation Park visitor centers is right down the highway. Definitely recommend stopping by and asking for hiking recommendations. Review sponsored by the Gauley Swim Team 2021 (swim provided by iron ring).
