This tour definitely an awesome experience. Our guide Lane and Riley were the best. They picked us up at the hotel on time and provided some trivia along the way. Once we reached our first stop which was the bottom of Mauna Kea to meet fellow visitors and then started our drive up the mountain. We had our 2nd stop at the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station. This is like the main pit stop for everyone who is going to drive up to the summit. The elevation here is already at 9000 ft. As we head our way to the summit, Lane continued to provide us with trivia and some basic info about the Mauna Kea and its surroundings and of course about the observatories. I also appreciate him for always reminding us the importance of Mauna Kea to the local Hawaiian people and he would appreciate if we show some respect. Once we reached the summit, like everybody else we did take as many photos as we can. The view from the top was amazing. The elevation by this time is already at 13000 ft and the temperature changed quickly. Thankfully our tour includes thick jackets and gloves to keep us warm. We waited for the sun to set which was very beautiful to see especially at 13000 feet above the clouds. After that Lane gathered us back to our van and made our way down to the VIS again for our star gazing activity which was very informative. Lastly, Lane did us a favor of taking our night shot photos which turned out to be a perfect souvenir of our tour.
