We were picked up from the Hilton Naniloa Hotel in Hilo, on time by Aidan. Aidan is an amazing storyteller and a lover of everything galactic. He whisked our small group away to the summit as he wove tale after tale of Mauna Lea, Mauna Loa and ancient Hawaii. We first watched the ethereal sunset followed by stargazing in the most incredible clear sky, shattered with stars. We saw stars through a huge Celestron telescope and also via naked eye. Light snacks and parkas were provided. Even though we were fully prepared and layered heavily in North Face, It was the coldest, darkest, windiest night ever. Clear, yes. Cold? A big yes. Go prepared. We also had an astrophoto taken which came out really nice! Thank you! My only suggestion would be to wash down and squeegee the huge picture windows on the van. They were so grimy, dusty, we could not see very clearly out of them. Also, the pictures I took through them did not turn out good. All in all, Aidan gave us wonderful memories! Mahalo!
