The Key West day trip was fun. We went in December and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. There were many options to choose from that you can book online ahead of time, on the way to Key West , and also once there.
The bus transportation from Miami Yo Key West was nice and relaxing. We weren’t too thrilled about the short stop at the McDonald’s on the way. I haven’t eaten McDonald’s in years, but it was OK. We would have preferred maybe the Cracker Barrel along the way, but we noted that they were on a tight time schedule.
You have six hours on the island so choose your options wisely. We visited the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum and the Butterfly Sanctuary along with a scrumptious lunch with browsing around to some of the stores afterwards. The six hours went by very fast, so if you’re thinking on doing more than two options, you may want to consider the two day pass.
There are 2 more reasons why I’m giving this four out of five stars.
1). The tour operator told us to be back on the bus by 5:00 PM. We made it there on time but had to wait another 30 minutes for other people to arrive. We assumed that he wanted everyone there anyway 30 minutes earlier to make sure he would be able to leave by 5:30 PM.
2). He explained before dropping everyone off in completing the trip that he may not be able to drop us off directly at the pick up point from the morning. We are from out of town and had been using Ubers during our stay there, so when he dropped us off, almost one street, one block over, we did not know where to go. We understand the traffic was somewhat heavy, but he should’ve pointed us in the right direction. We had to end up doing a Google map, emphasizing walking distance.
All in all the trip was fun and we may plan to go there again choosing other options.
