My friend an I booked this tour (Mafia, Murder, Sex, and All That Jazz) as part of a long weekend in NOLA. Booking was easy and our tour guide, Dave, even sent a text providing all of the necessary information (meeting place, time, contact info, etc.). That was a great touch.
We took a tour earlier in the morning and it rained the entire time. My friend decided to just go back to our hotel, but I decided to brave the weather and take the tour.
When I arrived at the designated location 15 minutes early (as indicated in the pre-tour text), I spotted Dave immediately (he also provided a pic in the text). He told me that the other tourists had backed out. I was worried that he would cancel the text with just one member, but he was more than happy to conduct the tour with just me! How friggin' awesome is that?!?
We started the tour and for the next two hours we walked around the French Quarter and I got to learn about the shady beginnings of New Orleans (and the "creative" advertising used the get people to settle the area), the mob's involvement in the history of NOLA, Lee Harvey Oswald's ties to The Big Easy, crime and corruption in the city, and prostitution's role in the history of the city (including the incredible story of Storyville...which is almost too insane to be true).
90% of the tour was spent walking through the French Quarter talking about the people and places we passed. Since it was raining, the last 10% of the tour we sat in a dry, warm coffee shop and Dave told more incredible stories about NOLA and its seedy underbelly.
I give this tour an A+ on all fronts. For the cost, it was the most interesting two hours I spent in NOLA. I highly recommend this tour and Dave as a tour guide. I had a great time.
