I like to start my vacations in a new city with a Hop on Hop off ride to get the lay of the land and hear all about the city I’m visiting. I was really excited to do that in NYC as well! We got the three day Unlimited ticket, so we spent a fair amount of money on this excursion. The lines were so long to get on the buses that four buses came by before we could get on one. There is no air conditioning on these buses, actually, there is no air at all. It is so stifling hot inside on the lower level that the only comfortable option is to be on top. That’s if you can find a seat up there. One can’t sit down stairs in that heat. The guides are very knowledgeable, but are so rude, condescending and belittling that their knowledge is overshadowed by their unpleasantness. Then they have the nerve to suggest we leave them a tip. I witnessed their holier than thou attitude on so many people. People that couldn’t speak English, people that couldn’t move around as easily, elderly people and people just trying to enjoy the experience with their family. We thought having a live guide would be a plus and we’d get a lot more info than just the pre recorded sightseeing buses. And we did, but we got a whole lot more with the live guides. And it’s wasn’t just because they were New Yorkers with the east coast directness. They spoke so fast and mumbled you could hardly understand them. They were awful to the tourists!!! We had two different guides because we switched routes and they were both mean and unfriendly. I would not do this company again!!!! I was very offended by their treatment of people, and it wasn’t even directed at me. But I felt I had to write a review so that others know, maybe this will open the eyes of the guides about how they treat the tourists that are paying for their knowledge. It could be such a great experience! They should love meeting all the tourists and have fun with them. We really do want to hear about this great city! And we know they have great info to tell us. Just make it enjoyable!!

Good Afternoon jllegge, Please know while we monitor the demand, and plan for additional buses during busier times, there are events that are out of our control, we post route changes and/or cancellations on our website and app under “service” information, and we have been experiencing delays, and route changes and cancellations due to the UN General Assembly still we work strenuously to still provide our passengers an opportunity to explore the city despite city events that are out our control. We do have A/C as well as check our buses before leaving for the days service, but sometimes we experience issues during hotter days. Our guides are trained to present a commentary that is both informative and enjoyable, explaining the history of different buildings and sights, all while adding information and facts about Manhattan. They are also expected to treat our guests with courtesy, respect and kindness. We appreciate you providing names and descriptions of the tour guides and drivers that you had on your tours, as this information helps us with coaching and retraining to [email protected]. In regards to tipping, while it is customary in this profession to tip, it is not mandatory. It is disappointing to hear of the aggressive way you were approached, and we apologize if you were made to feel uncomfortable in any way and hope the rest of your experience is pleasant. We took many tours in NYC, but the Brooklyn tour was outstanding. Our guide JOHN HARKINS made this trip extraordinary and exceptional so that we will stay definitely in Brooklyn and not Manhattan during our next trip! And do never ever forget: "Don't buy your gifts at the airport, buy at CANAL STREET"

The Gray Line tour is much better than the Big Bus tour. I’ve done the Gray Line in prior years and decided to try Big Bus for variety this time - Big mistake. I purchased a two day hop on hop off package with Big Bus for my eight family members. Horrible experience all around. Day 2: planned to do Uptown tour. App & website indicated that it runs until 7:00 and that the last pickup at their starting point, Carnegie Hall, was at 6:00. Arrived at the CH bus stop at 4:47 PM. Four Big Buses passed us without stopping. Called Big Bus at 5:40; operator said no more buses would be picking up at Carnegie Hall nor at any uptown stops this evening, so we were unable to do the Uptown tour on this trip. She said the buses over the past hour probably didn’t stop because they were full, but that seems weird since Carnegie Hall is listed as the beginning of the tour. Operator said I could request a refund on the app. I tried to submit the refund four times on app and twice on website and got error message every time. Guess I’ll have to request it through snail mail tomorrow. Will update this review once I find out whether or not refund has been approved and received. Day 1: did Downtown tour. App experience was poor; Big Bus doesn’t have digital tickets. Was texted a QR code and had to find a Big Bus street agent to print our tickets, which were in one continuous roll about 10 times longer than even a CVS receipt. It was a pain to hunt and find our eight tickets for that day throughout the long paper. Boarded. Top of bus seats were uncomfortable; hard with little legroom. Headphone-based narration had poor audio quality (lots of crackling). First tour guide was pretty boring, had minimum commentary on sites. Second tour guide was better, but I was disappointed that the bus route didn’t drive through more of downtown (however, the route was clearly listed on the app/map so at least their advertising was accurate for this day). Bottom line: there are much better providers than Big Bus. Big Bus isn’t worth the money, due to the quality of the tour; poor customer service/missed pickups/false advertising; and poor technology on app and with headphones. Go with literally any other tour company.

Big Bus, care about all of our customers as we pride ourselves in operating a compassionate and ethical business, anything less of that is going against our core values and we would never jeopardize our reputation in doing so. Due to city events out of our control, we have been experiencing an increase in delays and route changes. Whenever we have to change or alter a route, or close a stop completely, we only do so once mandated by the Dept. of Transportation. while we post these changes on our website and app under "Service information' All of our guides and agents are aware of these changes and should be informing customers also. In regards to feedback on the quality of the bus, audio, app and tickets, we appreciate it and will be reported to the designated department to take them under advisement. All of our guides should be presenting a commentary that is entertaining and educational. While we do encourage our guides to make the tours they are presenting their own, and add a personal touch from time to time, information provided should be full of the history, facts and architecture of Manhattan and surrounding buildings. As per your refund request, please forward your information including the reason for your requested so, we may resolve the issue promptly.
