I have been on some NYC food tours and a literary pub crawl. I was a newbie to Newport, unlike my two companions. Paula Silva was our guide, our historian and our very fun foodie enthusiast. First: we were stuffed after visiting 7 locally owned and run restaurants. Second: we had a lot of laughs as we were celebrating my 1/2 century birthday (my 2 younger companions let anyone and everyone know that) and third: we learned so much about Newport as an historically significant player in the shaping of our country that, as New Yorkers, we sometimes felt the need to say "really"? The first to have a tavern? the first to have a Jewish Synagogue? Humpf. Please take this food tour. Broadway Tavern, Mudville, Pour Judgment, Salad Dog :-), Mission, Boru, and the controversial White Horse Tavern (I will let you learn why it's controversial for those who have been to NYC's White Horse Tavern). Fun, fun, fun. A roughly 3 hour tour over 2 miles in some of the best kept secrets of a very touristy-town. Thank you, Paula, for such an enlightening and enjoyable experience. I hope to visit you again as your business becomes the hottest ticket in town. You deserve it.
