All surf lessons include top quality surf tech surfboards, Lycra rash guards, and instruction on land and in water. Classes focus on teaching the student the fundamentals of surfing.

My husband and I took two surfing classes in three days. First one with another big name there in north shore, it was terrible. They took us to a place where the sea was brown like chocolate, grossing. There were three students with two instructors, and yet the instructors were still very reluctant to towing us, most of the time they just waited far away on the wave and watched us paddled like there was no tomorrow to get back. And they were very reluctant to tell us anything about surfing, even when I asked question the only reply I get were like this needed experience that needed experience. So we changed to North shore girl and it was awesome. Carol and Brendon took us to a great place with good waves and towing and pushing us every time I fell. Not only she told you what to do but also told you why. Both my husband and I learned a lot from them. And Brendon cut his toes while helping my husband getting out from rock, blood poured out from the wound and he insisted to finish the class. He was awesome. Be with them not the other one.

My situation: I wanna try surfing; I'm not a good swimmer; I've never really swam in an ocean; I don't float; I really wanna try surfing! Carol at North Shore Surf Girls was quick to reply to my email, "should/could I try surfing?" ... "of course!" I was assured that it'd be safe, that I could wear a life vest if need be, and that the waves would be gentle (I went at the end of September). We decide I'd do an one-hour private lesson, which I thought was a great way to make my first attempt, especially with my water challenges. Kat was my instructor and she was excellent! She was fun, personable, and patient; she put me on multiple waves, and even pointed out a friend, a surfing sea turtle! My non-swimming turns out to be a non-issue ~ when really, a giant flotation device was only a leash away tied to my ankle ... and Kat was always close by as well. I enjoyed the location of North Shore as well ~ it seems a little more calm and less crowded ... though I haven't taken a lesson at Waikiki. Overall, it was my favourite experience over my 11 days in Hawaii, and I did a lot of firsts, and crazy things! Thank you Kat, Carol, and North Shore Surf Girls! =)
