I would have liked to moved around more on the scooter and would have liked more time. This was an amazing experience. I also Scuba-dived after and swam with turtles and fish. Omg it was great!

I’ve been snorkeling before and love it. I get anxious while scuba diving. So I tried this adventure on a whim after seeing pictures and had low expectations. Fantastic experience! Blew my mind. Saw and interacted with different fish and turtles! Crystal clear waters! 1. I was staying Waikiki so had to take a ride share (~$40 each way). If you don’t have a car, you need to consider that in planning and price. 2. They take out groups of 20 people at a time. 15 of their people come out with you. They do two tours a day. 3. The captain reviewed basic SCUBA hand signals at the start. 👍, 👌👇 4. They take out 10 people at a time in the scooters. The other ten can snorkel on the other side of the boat. 5. The scooter works on the same principal where a cup turned upside down won’t fill with water when underwater. The air pressure within the bubble/helmet is greater than the pressure of the surrounding water allowing for space for your head. This can create a safe space for your head up to about 20-30 meters depth of the dive. The scooters are fitted with a rope and buoy that won’t let you go deeper than about 5 meters. The scooters are heavy enough that they won’t flip over even in the (mild) Pacific swells. There is an oxygen tank on the scooter that the diver would periodically use. I suspect it provided me oxygen too. I do not know where the CO2 went. I did see bubbles coming out so I suspect it was being expelled Note: I’m about 6’ tall and weigh about 180 lbs with relatively broad shoulders. I easily fit in the scooter. One guy in our group was much larger (maybe 220-240). His shoulders would not get into the setup well, and, therefore his head did not go into the bubble well. He was the only person in our boat with this issue and couldn’t do the scooter. 6. Each rider goes down with an individual diver. They spread you out so that everyone gets their own experience. They do try to get groups of two together if part of a family. 7. The area of the dive is where sea turtles go to get “cleaned.” Smaller fish will eat algae over of their shells. So you will see a lot of turtles. The diver brought me very close to one turtle. Remember: do not touch the turtles! 8. Each of the scooters has this little bag in the front filled with fish food. They encourage you to shake up the bag and spread a little food in front of your scooter. All these schools of little fish come up to feed. I’m not a marine biologist, but the two species I saw were these small spear shaped silver colored fish and these larger pancake shaped multicolored fish. 9. A photographer diver will come by to take a 30 - 60 second video and 8 or so photos. I didn’t see him the first time but I was smiling from ear to ear in each shot (because of the actual joy I was having!!). The entire time under water is about 20 min. 10. Compared to snorkeling the same day the scooter was fat and away the best experience. I did a number of excursions while here for a week and this was the best! 11. They have a large water container with cups on the beat. There are also bags of chips for snacks. The swells weren’t bad that day but one guy did get a little sea sick. 12. At the end of the boat ride the photographer will show you preview shots of your time. $20 to get the pictures. $40 for the pics and video. I think the prices were more for groups. Given the work these people do I would definitely buy that no matter how you feel about the ride. They send you a link for file transfer a few hrs later. The entire compressed zip folder was about 0.5 Gb. I’ve only looked at them on my laptop but they seem to be very high quality. Some in our group brought along GoPros. I wasn’t sure how they would/did use them (your hands are outside the bubble). I imagine you could head mount it as long as you had enough space in the bubble for the top of your head. Your right hand is on the controller/feeding the fish so I guess you could hold a camera in the left hand. I don’t know if the workers will allow this for safety reasons. 13. Unfortunately I don’t remember the names of the people who ran the boat or divers. They were each very friendly, professional and courteous. They gave out advice of other things to do and see. Make sure you tip them! A few of us quickly did the math in our heads, and I can’t imagine that two of these tours a day for all of them provides a living wage on Oahu. They truly take pride in what they do and keep you safe while making sure you have a great time. I came to Honolulu for a business trip and added a few days for personal use. A number of my colleagues did the same. I told each of them to try and book this adventure if they can. I try to do different things when on vacation, but I will strongly consider repeating this the next time I am out here!
