It was decided on our first night in Newport, that we would do a ghost tour....which we try to do in all the more historic towns we stay in. This one was lots of fun, as our tour guide mixed the ghost stories in with the history of the town. As far as ghost tours go...it was entertaining, but not one of the best we had been on. I feel our guide was probably fairly new, as she was checking notes for part of the night and she was not as animated as some we have been with. We have found that the tour guides can actually make or break the ghost tour, but we did still have a good time. I would suggest this ghost tour to anyone who is interested in either ghosts or history.

I love ghost tours and try to take one in every city that I visit. This one was exceptionally good, due to the wonderful storytelling of McKenzie, a young woman whose dad is also a tour guide. She was phenomenal- so much so...that my reluctant 11 year old son listened and then narrated her stories to his grandparents the next day! She had the perfect blend of theatrics and historical facts that made the hour and a half walk very pleasurable. The evening was warm with an underlying hint of coolness that Fall always brings, and our stops along Blood Alley, the White Horse Tavern and the cemetery at Trinity Church were eerie and spooky. It was very interesting to hear the stories about each of the places, and to gain a different perspective that the darkness brings. A definite recommendation for the tour and for our guide!

I was on this tour in August and I was thoroughly impressed by how our tour guide, Consequence, involved the whole tour group and made it fun and personal for everyone. She has a great talent for storytelling that strikes a nice balance between the macabre and light-hearted quips. Lots of photo ops for the folks loving on the 'orbs' (the kids on the tour seemed to especially like this), and great stories for everyone. Lots of really great historical info along with the spooky storytelling--Pirates, ghosts, murder, intrigue--this tour packs it in! The walk is easy, but watch out for the uneven footing--although I suppose that's the "charm" of Newport sidewalks. Maybe, as other posters have recommended, consider bringing a flashlight. :) I highly recommend this tour if ever you're in Newport!
