This was such an adventure. The tour guides were so great -- both entertaining and safety conscious. You get an up-close look at the sea lions on the cliffs and going inside the cave was incredible! This tour does require a lot of physical exertion, so be ready for that. I would definitely recommend this tour!
My family booked this tour in July 2016. We had a great time! It is not strenuous or difficult even for those who never kayaked before. The company is Everyday California in La Jolla and the guides were fantastic! They also gave a lot of information about the local area.
Upon registration, they offer rentals of wet suits/wet shirts and they will tell you the water is freezing. We bought into it, and rented the wet shirts. You do not need one in July! We were too hot and the shirts smelled awful! The water was refreshing in the hot sun and you really don't get wet at all other than a wave splash or two when you push out. We were advised to book early tours as the water is calmer in the morning and you are more likely to be able to go into the cave. Afternoon waters get choppy and they will not take you near the caves if it is rough. We went at 9:30 a.m. and it was perfect! You are in a two person kayak, even though Viator booking says you will get single kayaks. They only offer doubles for the tour, which was fine for a family of 4. I advise to call Everyday California and talk to them. They were very helpful and answered all of my questions before the trip! Awesome experience!
My 10 yr old daughter who has very little experience in the ocean went with me, and she was a bit apprehensive about going. Marcus and Rachel helped get us past the waves and out on the ocean. They were also both very fun and had great attitudes. We were able to go into the La Jolla sea caves for a pretty brief, albeit cool, glimpse inside. Overall, they were awesome tour guides!
