Kayaking in La Jolla was the highlight of our trip! It was a sunny yet cool day so we also rented wetsuits, which really kept us comfortable. Our group consisted of 4 adults, an 8 year old, and a 6 year old. We were joined by 4 other adults, including the instructor. The wonderful folks from Everyday California walked out into the water with us and pushed us through the high waves. Once past there, we had relatively calm water. On the way back, we received excellent instructions how to ride the waves back to shore. What a blast! Just like surfing! We didn’t see any whales but did see some lovely orange fish and a few sea lions. There had been a storm go through the area the previous day so due to the high water level, we weren’t allowed to go into the caves.
We took frequent breaks to rest, and to admire the scenery. A few of us jumped off the kayaks into the water for a quick swim.
Spitz was our instructor - he was excellent! We received a lot of information about the rock formations, fault lines, and how to tell the difference between a sea lion and a seal.
The entire staff at Everyday California was very helpful. There is a bathroom on site, change rooms, lockers, and is only a short walk (few blocks) from the water. The kayaks are already at the shore so no heavy carrying. Highly recommend this company! Worth the money!
