First off we are an active couple but we were looking to slow down for a few hrs. Started out nice enough. Us and one other couple plus our capt., so 5 total on the boat. Nice introductions and off we went for about a one hour cruise northeast towards the mangroves and the sandbar.
The boat is fairly loud so once we were out of the no wake area, there was little talking in the boat. When we arrived at the mangroves and started touring through the area (which for a northern couple was pretty neat) our capt gave us a little local knowledge and off toward the sandbar we went. The tide was higher then usual for that time of the day (full moon) so the sand bar never appeared. It was maybe 2’ under. No problem, we found a small private beach and ran the boat up onto the sand. That’s when it started to go a little sideways. Not a lot of direction or knowledge from the capt. Just a “hey do you want to kayak or paddle board?” Sure each couple jumped into double kayaks and paddle into the strong (full moon) shifting tides. Was neat for a bit. We returned to the boat for something else. There was talk of looking for a different sandbar, nope. Tides are pretty darn strong to go back in the kayak. Paddle board, not really interested.
No music, no snacks to this point. No chairs, no umbrella. Which is the cover pict on the advertisement on their trip advisor page. We wandered the very little island for a bit. Hung out in the water for a bit. Which is beautiful by the way. Capt asked “hey do you want to tour the mangroves for a bit”. Both couples said yes. Great. So we jumped in the boat and set off - exactly the same way we got there. Went as straight as you can go through the mangroves back towards “home”. Capt. says do you want a snack? Sure. Snacks were fine, though not much compared to other boat trips we have taken off Key West. Then as we were snacking we picked up the pace straight back to the dock without a word of what was going on.
Back to the dock. Enjoy your day folks. See ya !!
Seemed like they have very little experience running this trip. I don’t know. I usually don’t review anything. This may be what your looking for, but to us it was less then nothing. It was the promise of a laid back day that turned out to be a boat tour out and back. And not much else. A pontoon boat ride with chips and humus is not worth $300 per couple.
