This tide pool is a local secret. It's off the beaten path. A miracle of nature. We'll use a jungle/lava rock coastal trail. Each way takes 30-40 min (1/2 mile) (10 minutes in jungle, 20-30 minutes on coast). Only your group will participate. I'll teach you about the pool's ecosystem and the local environment. You'll also have time to explore/relax privately.

- Elevation gain on the hike offers amazing coastal views. Sea turtles are a common sight in the distance.
- The pool is like an infinity pool overlooking cliffs. The water is crystal clear. It's highly likely you'll be alone because this spot is so unknown.
- The pool is like an an aquarium with fish, hermit crabs, rock crabs, sea cucumbers, shrimp, snails, spaghetti worms, pink coralline algae, seaweed, shells, & cool rocks.
- Waves strike cliffs and shoot water in the air like a blowhole (conditions permitting). A once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
- The pool is calm/safe with a deep (4-7 ft.) & shallow (1-4 ft.) area.

Public transportation options are available nearby
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Wear hiking shoes, hiking sandals, or athletic shoes for the hike. Hiking shoes are most ideal. If you wear sandals, closed-toe are most ideal.
Wear water shoes at the tide pool. Closed-toe shoes with durable soles are most ideal.
Wear a bathing suit and bring a towel. There are no bathrooms at the tide pool.
Many people bring a snorkeling mask or goggles.
Apply "reef safe" sunscreen before the hike to minimize its contact with the tide pool water. Bug spray is unnecessary because there are no ticks and very few bugs or mosquitoes.
Some people bring a first aid kit because I don't provide one.

The tide pool itself was great. We were the only ones there. Getting there climbing over the rocks was a bit strenuous but worth it

This was an exciting hike to the Tide pools which were naturally beautiful and refreshing. It wasn’t easy to walk over volcanic rock but our guide gave us confidence and never left us. It took some patience but in the end it was great! Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

This is one of our favorite activities on the island because it is very unique!! We were a group of 5 people with a grandma and 2 teens. My Mom only could hike half way to the first big tide pool but she still really enjoyed watching the fish and small creatures in the tide pool and the beautiful scenery. We love the hike to the private tide pool up on the cliff and Josh gave us plenty of time to explore and enjoy. He even offered to take some amazing pictures for us. This is a must do activity on the Big Island and totally worth the time to drive there!
