Private Tour of Mesa Verde With an Archeologist-Trained Guide

Experience some of the most notable and best-preserved archaeological sites in the United States. Mesa Verde encompasses over 80 square miles and protects over 5,000 archaeological sites, including the famous Cliff Palace and nearly 600 cliff dwellings, some of which are more than 800 years old. Tickets for Cliff Palace are an additional purchase.
When you book this tour you’ll sit back and relax while our experienced, knowledgeable archaeologist-trained guide takes you around the National Park. With your guide’s knowledge, you will be able to ask questions, read literature, and listen to your own customized tour of the park.

PLEASE NOTE: We are NOW OFFERING CLIFF PALACE with the tickets. All guides have been trained extensively by our in-house archeologists.
This tour requires a 2-person minimum. If minimums are not met a full refund will be given. *Gratuity not included*.

We had a wonderful experience and Bruce was awesome. Definitely 5 stars. He may not have known it but my husband has early onset Alzheimer's and made the effort to engage him in conversation and made him so comfortable. He was a blessing! and so knowledgeable about the area.

We booked a private tour for five people with Durango River Trippers for our second day of exploration at Mesa Verde. I personally spoke with the tour operator and carefully explained that we already had arrangements for the standard Mesa Verde tour on our first day included the most popular and well known sites including the famous Cliff Palace. He told me that he and his wife had done that tour and liked it He then said that he would have to do some work and put together a custom itinerary taking into account what we would have seen already. There was absolutely no ambiguity that we wanted different sites. The price for five of us came to over $1500. This seemed super expensive to me but I expected that they would design a really special trip for us, so I decided to splurge. When we met out guide on the second morning, he knew nothing about this. No special trip had been designed. He had come prepared to just do the standard tour and was completely surprised that we had already seen those things. He had to think of other things to do on the spur of the moment. One fairly impressive site that we hadn't seen yet was Long House cliff dwelling. It is next in importance to Cliff Palace. However, we couldn't see it, because tickets would have had to be purchased in advance, and the company hadn't done it.

Janet, You know this is not an accurate review of the events that took place leading up to your tour. For starters, we recorded all inbound and outbound phone calls and we reviewed the entire conversation around your tour prep. When you called and said you wanted to do a Mesa Verde tour with your husband who is in a wheelchair we had to carefully review if this was an option. This park is not ADA accessible. Once you said he is fine with being left behind on some of the tours and you would follow us in your ADA-accessible vehicle we carefully crafted your day. Not once on the calls did you ever mention you were doing another tour. Not once... This is an outright mistruth and you know that. Plus we DO NOT DO RANGER TOURS. We take the position that why would you spend 279$ per person just to have us drop you off at the ranger tours? Those tickets are 8$. Please do not pay us that much money just to have us drop you off at a ranger station. You would be better off driving yourself. When we called you back and you talked to Gene, he and I were both shocked to hear you had booked an entire tour with another operator the day before. Be honest in your review. For someone who has your professional experience, we are shocked to see you not tell the truth about what took place. After your tour, you demanded $1000 or you would leave a review online. Gene called you back to go over your refund options on Friday and boom you hit us with a dishonest review on Saturday. Janet, it looks like we are agreeing to part ways without a resolution. How disappointing you chose to leave it this way. We will be updating this review at a later time with the call script for the world to decide who was being honest. Booking a private tour from Durango Rivertrippers made all the difference for our family of five w/our recent visit to Mesa Verde National Park. We have visited dozens of national parks, and are used to exploring on our own. Denise helped us see much more of the park than we would have seen by ourselves, and we learned *far* more than we would have learned from the park's signage / guidebooks. The trip was well worth the additional $$, and helped ensure that we'll remember this trip for years. Can't recommend highly enough!
