During the summer months, spend some quality time with our friendly burros, who love to roam around the site. These adorable miniature donkeys will bring a smile to your face as you pet and feed them.

In the midst of the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Country Boy Mine was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Breckenridge, Colorado. Today, we invite you to visit the Country Boy Mine and enjoy the many activities the mine has to offer. Join us for a mine tour into a real gold mine at this historic restored mining site. While at the mine you can also gold pan, pet the burros, slide down the 55 foot ore chute, explore the authentic mine site, view the exhibits and equipment that were used in the mine and visit the general store. The Country Boy Mine has been offering mine tours for over 20 years. The Country Boy Mine is located 2 miles from downtown Breckenridge in Summit County, Colorado.

We've been on several road trips now and we've debating panning for gold at several of them....we finally decided to do that....and....the kids hated it. We wish we wouldn't have paid for it. The kids these day have ZERO patience to sit and put a pan of rocks in water and try to syphen out rocks or gold. We had four kids with us: 2 7 year olds and 2 10 year olds. They did find the mine interesting, but super cold. It's dark and cold inside the mine and it drips water. It's also super slippery so I suggest you have the ability to walk well if you decide to go in. The two adults on the tour, my friend and I, enjoyed the mine tour a lot, but it was hard to listen to 4 grumbling kids. Make sure this is something you definitely want to do before you do it because it's also a little ways off the beaten path

If you are visiting Colorado then you should learn the historic Colorado (yes people flocked there before winter sports became popular). Mining built Colorado...so no family vacation would be complete without a gold mine tour. The CountryBoy Mine in Breckenridge is an extremely informative and well operated tour. We felt safe throughout our tour of the mine shaft. Afterwards the guides demonstrated how to gold pan. Visitors can sit along the beautiful mountain stream overlooking the city of Breckenridge and can pan for gold until the mine tours close for the day. Definitely a summer must do.

We opted for the panning without the mine tour because of the price. The staff was very nice and helped us out multiple times as we learned to pan gold. We never found any, and I really doubt anyone does, but the kids can say they've panned for gold now.
