Discover the authentic and captivating Country Boy Mine on this exciting and educational tour. Dating back to 1887, Country Boy Mine offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of mining towns in the olden days. This interactive tour allows you to delve into the fascinating world of mining in Breckenridge, with the only real open mine in the area. As part of your visit, you will also have the chance to try your hand at gold panning. Learn the techniques utilized by prospectors and experience the thrill of discovering gold for yourself (and keep your GOLD).

During the summer months, spend some quality time with our friendly burros, who love to roam around the site. These adorable miniature donkeys will bring a smile to your face as you pet and feed them.

In the midst of the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Country Boy Mine was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Breckenridge, Colorado. Today, we invite you to visit the Country Boy Mine and enjoy the many activities the mine has to offer. Join us for a mine tour into a real gold mine at this historic restored mining site. While at the mine you can also gold pan, pet the burros, slide down the 55 foot ore chute, explore the authentic mine site, view the exhibits and equipment that were used in the mine and visit the general store. The Country Boy Mine has been offering mine tours for over 20 years. The Country Boy Mine is located 2 miles from downtown Breckenridge in Summit County, Colorado.

We came when it opened and were able to explore what they had to offer, pet the dog and donkeys, and do the ore shute befpre our tour started. Very interesting to learn the history of mining! Panned for gold for an hour and we found a little piece of gold and lits of fools gold! Neat activity to do on our trip with a 6.5 & 5yo!

The Country Boy Mine is a neat place- the donkey, old mine, and mining equipment are cool to see. We did not do the mine tour, so I cannot speak to that. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. However, I paid $17 per child for them to pan for gold. The small, man-made area they have them pans was pretty "rusty" looking and after hours were never found much. In addition, I didn't think the employees were super helpful in helping us sift through our trays. My kids (ages 7 and 10) loved messing around with it for over an hour, so it wasn't a total waste. They said we could stay as long as we wanted, but the outhouse was pretty nasty and it was a hot day.

Way overpriced for a very short walk down an abandoned mine. Not that much fun. Kids enjoyed panning for gold for a little while. Not worth it.
