River Fishing and Bear Watching

This tour is designed for cruise ship passengers who are looking for an Alaskan excursion that is off the beaten path. We’ll depart Icy Strait Point and drive through the Alaska Native Tlingit village of Hoonah before merging onto old logging roads that will take us to a remote river. During the car ride and along the river it is common to spot wildlife- the island has more brown bears per square mile than almost anywhere else on the planet.

Great experience. Lots of good views. Caught a bunch of fish and had a great time. Would recommend guide was great at explaining and showing what was needed to catch the fish. Also a very good price for what you get not just sitting on a boat waiting for fish to come around.

We went Bear watching with Natalie in Hoonah. She was a great guide. She took us to several spots. It was a fun adventure with chest waders on walking through a river. We saw very fresh bear tracks, but no bears. She is very knowledgeable and we felt very safe with her. She also did a little fishing in the river and easily caught a fish. Wish we had time to have done her fly fishing tour. I would highly recommend her tours.

On time pickup in a clean vehicle, waders and rods of good quality, 25 minute ride to a secluded property where I was the only one fishing. Pretty good start, wouldn’t you say. Well it gets better… this knowledgeable guide put me on fish within 20 minutes, coached me on finer points of technique and the fish came one after another. Dolly Varden and cutthroats since we were in mid-May and no salmon runs were on. This guide is competent and pleasant company. We then went looking for bears and saw a coastal bear within 30 minutes. We got back to my cruise ship in plenty of time after this 4 hour outing. This wonderful outing made me forget the awful weather we endured previous days. It was sunny and pleasant in Icy Straights and I had a fabulous time. Thank you so much, Nathalie.
