While we would loved to have driven this trip, we would have had to spend the whole time watching the road and cars around us. This first time using a tour was the best. We had Uncle Joe, who was so knowledgeable and wise, we're sure he's 100yrs old! In experience, anyways. More like 70. He not only knew the history and geography, he lived it as a cattle car driver, parent of a teacher in Hana, climber of trees, picker of fruit and raiser of a wild piglet who apparently was picked up during one of his tours. (Became part of a neighbor's luau when it reached 300 lbs and kicked out of his house...) We had so much fun on this tour and 75% was due to Uncle Joe. Nice touch to have breakfast at Cafe O'Lei on the Plantation. That drew us back to have a nice dinner there at a later date. The black sand beach at Wai'anapana State Park was not as comparable to the one on the Big Island. As many have said, Hana itself is nothing to write home about. It's the Road to Hana that makes it famous. Once is enough. There is a lot more to see on the island of Maui. Wish Uncle Joe could take us on a tour for the rest of it.
