This prestigious award recognizes Cruisin' the Castro as a longstanding, community-servicing business and a valuable cultural asset to the City & County of San Francisco.

Tours are fun, fascinating and offers twice as many tour stops that not only include the colorful sites of the largest LGBTQ community in the world, but explores the spectrum of sexual and gender diversity and the struggle with achieving equal rights in America.   No other tour offer this rare and educational opportunity!

Tours are conducted by a local resident, professional tour guide and a civil rights activist.

Kathy is a lovely women who has lived though many personal changes in her lifestyle preferences which she shares with you--to educate us about the diverse culture of the Castro. She gives you the historical perspective of how the community developed and how the changes of diversity has been the strength of the neighborhood. The story of Harvey Milk is highlighted and even after knowing the story I was impressed by his impact while he was only in office 11 months. The flags, the pronouns, colors are all explained. There were people from London, Australia, India and elsewhere on our town- some gay some straight. It was an easy tour physically. I appreciated the stop at the restaurant that displays a few sections of the AIDS quilt in the original location of where they were made. Kathy is active in the community and is endearing in her love for her neighborhood and the cause of social justice we all need to share. If I am ever back in SF I will take the tour again and bring as many people as I can to educate us on on the continuing struggle of human rights. Plus she is so fun! She mentioned that she tours with school groups and I think everyone should have the opportunity to take her tour.

Our tour with Kathy was great, informative, emotional, fun. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about this historically important area in LGBT history.

This tour was informative, personal, heartfelt and educational. Beyond my expectations, and a perfect balance of humor and a genuine passion for equal rights. Kathy’s demeanor was very warm and she kept us interested the whole time. My 14 year old daughter came away empowered and proud. Highly recommended!
