I’m a local and have been to this book several times over the last year- I always take out of town visitors, and sometimes even go just for fun with friends. The setting is unlike anything else in the city, it has a speakeasy vibe and it’s location couldn’t be better or more original. Gregory is an excellent host, talks about the shrimp, how he gets it, how he cooks it. There’s serval layers to the meal- a rotating appetizer (I’ve had several different things from “Cajun sundaes” - crab topped potato salad- to most recently some delicious grilled redfish) then of course the boil, with all the fixins. There’s always a few side dishes/salads as well!
Aside from this it’s also good to know that it’s a communal eating arrangement. You might be sitting next to, and sharing shrimp piles with strangers, but that’s how we do it in New Orleans! There’s also live entertainment, most times it’s the local drag legend Dede Onassis, who sings live in the room. Again, a truly unique experience!
I highly recommend this for locals and tourists alike, you won’t find anything else like it!
