These breweries are sample itineraries only. All schedules are subject to change. The founders of 1st Republic Brewing, Shawn Trout and Mike Drake, both served on active duty and with distinction overseas before returning to Vermont to serve up some of the best Veteran crafted brews. In fact, 1st Republic was voted 2018’s VT Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year. They love everything about beer from brewing it to drinking it to teaching about it and to sharing it. Friends, family, and beer lovers can gather ’round the taproom for fun, games, locally delivered food, and raising a glass to good beer and good times.

Queen City Brewery
Founded in 2014 by long-time friends and brewers Paul Hale, Paul Held, Phil Kaszuba, and Maarten van Ryckevorsel, Queen City Brewery brews a variety of traditional ales and lagers, as well as several unique specialty beers with a focus on giving the customer a unique experience with unexpected notes in their beers that they’ve aged and fermented to produce complex flavors unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. (So yeah, we’re pretty much changing your life by bringing you here. No need to thank us.) On our tour, you’ll see why this foursome rose to frothy success as you sip your way through their suds, including a rare style they brew call ‘Steinbeer’ that’s brewed with hot rocks. The process grants less temperature control to the brewer and imparts a smoky, caramel flavor. Yep, we’ll say it again: life-changing.
6
Zero Gravity Craft Brewery
Founded in 2004, Zero Gravity Brewing was born inside a restaurant that Flatbread head brewer, Destiny Saxon, and Zero Gravity brewmaster, Paul Sayler, created called American Flatbread Burlington Hearth. For years, they brewed exclusively out of the brewpub location, but as their popularity and demand grew, in 2012, they began distributing Zero Gravity for off-premise sales, and two years later, they had fully maxed out the production at the Flatbread Brewpub. Forced to find more space, they moved operations to a beautiful 30-barrel facility in Burlington’s South End Arts District, and in the spring of 2015, the Pine Street Brewery was born.

Yep, you heard right, I'm not a beer drinker. Never have been. So why on EARTH would I go on a Brew Tour, you ask? Because we were in Burlington, VT! And as they say, "When in Rome..." (or in this case, Burlington!). Actually, I booked this tour for my fiance as a bit of a thank you for doing a similar wine tour a few days earlier in Niagara. The day before our tour, we received a phone call to confirm our reservation and let us know what time our pick-up time would be. I appreciated this because, as it turned out, we were the first couple picked up, and therefor it was a bit earlier than I anticipated, and I was able to adjust accordingly. Matt, our tour guide, arrived promptly at the appointed time and was both courteous and outgoing. We had the pleasure of visiting with him alone for a bit as we made the rounds to the other hotels to pick up the rest of our party. As others have stated, yes, the AC in the van has some issues, but even during one of the hottest days of the summer, it was merely a nuisance not a tragedy. Matt made sure to offer us cold water at each stop (and in between) and did his best to keep the van parked in the shade when not in use. Additionally, we weren't in the van more than 15 mins or so at a time, so it really wasn't too bad. I would suggest that if you are extremely sensitive to heat, you might want to wear light clothing and sit as close to the front of the van as you can; you'll get a bit of relief that way. Our first stop was Vermont Pub & Brewery, followed by Switchback, Fiddlehead (where we had lunch), and finally Magic Hat. At each stop, I was consistently impressed not only with Matt's vast knowledge of the breweries themselves, their histories, and the beer making process in general; but also with his obvious good rapport with the people who run these microbreweries. At each location, Matt (and by association, our tour) was greeted warmly and welcomed like family. Matt made certain we knew what to expect at each location, and always seemed to be a step ahead of any questions we might think to ask - he was an excellent and intuitive tour guide, striking just the right balance between guiding us, and allowing us to explore. Lunch was delicious (pizza!) and I actually really enjoyed trying a variety of beers - I even found three or four that I enjoyed! Likewise, my fiance - a much more seasoned beer drinker - enjoyed trying new brews and learning more about the process of brewing. All too soon, our time was over and we were being dropped off at our hotel once again. This was a great tour, and we wouldn't hesitate to take it again on our next trip to Burlington.

My wife and I decided to do the Brew Tour during a recent stay in Burlington, VT. I saw one of their brochures in the hotel lobby and figured it would be a great way to experience the local beer scene. I'm so glad we decided to do the tour because we had an awesome time. Our tour guide, Matt, was a real cool guy in addition to knowing just about everything there is to know about beer. He even had a hand in designing one of the stop's t-shirts (ask him about, "Day Drinker"). We were very fortunate to have a friendly group of people with us; so we not only learned a great deal about the local Burlington, VT breweries (and sampled some very good beer), but we also had great conversations with the other people in our group. You can tour the same breweries, on your own, at little to no expense; however, the tour was well worth the price. Transportation, lunch (which was very good) and a variety of beer samples are all included. I will do the tour again on a future visit to Burlington (or the other cities where they offer tours).

If you like craft beer, this is as good as beer tours get. I have been on this twice, and it is the tour I measure all other beer tours against. (It's kind of our thing). You got to 4 or 5 (hard to remember by the end haha) Breweries, all with great beer. You stop at the best (non breakfast) restaurant in Burlington for lunch, and they drive you everywhere. Our tour guide was great, and it is now a tradition in Burlington for us!
