This is my second visit to USS Midway Museum and I thought it worth reviewing again from a COVID perspective.
I was actually pleasantly surprised that, in May 2021, most of the exhibits seemed to be open, including those below decks. I was wondering whether one would be restricted to the hangar and flight decks but visitors are able to explore pretty much all that I recall from my previous visit including accommodations, mess areas, wardrooms, sick bay etc. There is sanitizer distributed very liberally around the ship, as well as 6 foot separation markings and a requirement to wear masks (although some people ignored the latter of course).
For sure, a few interactive things are closed, most notably the flight simulators on the hangar deck, and one cannot currently calmer into any of the aircraft on display but these are but minor inconveniences. There are still audio tours available and many in person talks going on throughout the ship. All in all this is an excellent way to spend a few hours and I thought it was extremely good value for the $26 adult entry fee.
The ship is vast and not at all accommodating for those who find difficulty in walking or clambering up steep steps. I don't think the ship is at all accessible for those with any disabilities although there are some elevators to get from the quayside to the hangar deck and up to the flight deck but the interior of the ship would be off limits I think.
I very much enjoyed my tour, and as I say, was pleasantly surprised how much was open even though the pandemic does seem to be on the wane in the US right now.
